Electric Vs. Propane Water Heaters

According to research and statistics more than a quarter of the energy cost consumed by the average family comes from the heating of water. Every time you take a shower, clean your clothes, and wash your dishes you are heating the water using one of two systems; electric or propane.

Like with anything, there are both negatives and positives to using both systems. The one you choose will depend on what type of model they are, how efficient they are, and how much water they are able to heat at a given time. All of these things and more will help you to make the right decision.

Features

In order to know which is best you must first understand the difference between the two systems. Both electric and propane gas are able to be used for tankless, on-demand, and conventional water heaters. If you wish to use the heat pump water then your only option will be electricity.

Effeciency

When we are in search of the right water heater one thing that is at the top of the list is efficiency and price. Though we have to make sure to get something that is within or close to our price range we must now think to buy cheaply when we know in the long run we will lose out on money.

Propane water heaters are the more efficient choice to choose from. They have the ability to heat the water quicker then electric heaters. This will save the person the time they have to wait for it to warm up and the amount of water that is consumed during that waiting period.

The average water heater would need at least an hour to heat a forty gallon tank – but the propane is able to heat it in half that time. The pilot light built into the tank is what makes this possible. This is a small flame that is always lit so that the main burner is turned on the moment someone needs hot water.

Cost

A propane water heater will cost you around $250 to $350 a year to use. The electric heater systems are cheaper to purchase and install. However, they could cost you a great deal of money every month when you receive both your water and electric bill.
